When you sign with Rolex, the perks come fast. Not long after Rolex introduced its brand-new Land-Dweller collection, Leonardo DiCaprio was already spotted rocking it at CinemaCon.
For years, Rolex had the Sea-Dweller for deep-sea divers and the Sky-Dweller for globe-trotters. But there was still a gap—something for those of us who live life on solid ground. Enter the Land-Dweller, Rolex’s first entirely new collection since the 1908 launched in 2023.
The Land-Dweller’s design pulls inspiration from Rolex’s late 1970s Oysterquartz models. Like its predecessor, it features an integrated bracelet—a design choice Rolex fans haven’t seen since the Oysterquartz line was discontinued in 2001. For watch lovers tempted by Gérald Genta’s iconic Royal Oak or Nautilus, the Land-Dweller offers a similar sleek style, but with Rolex’s famous crown on the dial. (How easy it’ll be to actually get one—especially if you’re not an Oscar-winning actor like DiCaprio—remains to be seen.)
Historically, DiCaprio has been a Daytona guy. But now, as an official Rolex ambassador, we’re likely to see him sporting whatever’s new and making waves. (Roger Federer has done the same, quickly flashing the yellow gold “Le Mans” Daytona after its release, and showing off the white gold 1908 at the Met Gala shortly after it dropped.)
While the Land-Dweller may not have the instant, internet-breaking charm of the “Le Mans,” it’s already stirring up a lot of conversation among watch fans. The one gripe? Some think the name “Land-Dweller” doesn’t quite match the adventurous spirit captured by its Sea- and Sky-Dweller siblings.
Still, love it or question it, the Land-Dweller is making serious noise—and seeing it on DiCaprio’s wrist only adds to the buzz.
